I’m obsessed with the Seven Magic Mountains in Vegas and if you haven’t gone, you need to put it on your list! Better yet, if you are a Vegas local, this is a great activity that’s FREE.
Seven Magic Mountains is one of those places that is truly unexpected in Las Vegas. Vegas is synonymous with glitz and glam. But this, on the other hand, is anything but. And while this post is not sponsored, it does contain affiliate links. If you use these links to buy something, I may earn a commission. So let’s get the basics out of the way …
What is it exactly?
Simply put, Seven Magic Mountains is an art installation. The work was done by a Swiss artist named Ugo Rondinone and opened in 2016. The “mountains” are big, colorful neon boulders that have been placed on top of each other and stand over 30-feet tall.

Think of it as pop art colliding with land art. These bright, bold pillars are captivating against the desert landscape so if you’re trying to find some fresh IG or YouTube content, this is your place.
How far is it from the Strip?
The art installation is located give-or-take 20 miles south of the strip, so no excuse to not check it out. If you are staying at a resort towards the south end of the strip (my favorite hotel is Delano), the drive is about 15 mins.
If you are staying on the north side of the strip (like the new Resorts World or Virgin Hotel) the drive is about 30 mins. It’s a bit further if you are coming from Downtown Vegas. I book all of my hotels through Booking because I find they have the most competitive prices for Vegas, offer a great Rewards program and frequently have hotel room sales.
How can I get there?
You can drive, or catch an Uber or Lyft. Private tours are also offered that include private transportation to and from your hotel.
Does it cost money?
Believe it or not, this is completely FREE! That’s damn near shocking these days. However, if you don’t want to hassle with planning this trip, I would recommend checking out this 2 hour Private Tour which also stops at the Las Vegas Welcome Sign for photo opps.

How long do I spend there?
This is completely up to you. While I was there, I saw people get out of their car, grab a few photos and they were back on their way. It really just depends. For me, I wanted to spend a little more time there. Shit… I probably spent about an hour there in total, taking photos/videos and soaking it all up haha. I wish I brought my drone! I would allot about 2 hours total, with drive time and the experience.
Is it still available to see?
Yes! Seven Magic Mountains is still open, even after all these years of being a “temporary” art installation.
Any other tips?
Keep in mind the time of year you want to visit. I visited in July…the fuckin middle of summer.. and remember, Vegas is in the desert. It gets hot. And I’m not talking.. 85 degrees and ideal pool weather. I am talking 120 degrees and makeup is basically dripping off your face. My waterproof mascara wasn’t holding up to save my life!
Also – Bring water. And definitely bring some sunglasses. Plan to be poolside afterwards, cocktails highly encouraged 🙂

Adding this to my bucket list! I want to go to Vegas so bad (heard it’s really more family friendly than first thought). So I have another year to get there!
Yeah Vegas is definitely more family friendly these days. Lots to do for really any age. The Seven Magic Mountains is really fun for kids because the boulders are SO high and kids are just amazed!
Looks like loads of fun!
Lots of fun and it’s free! Bonus points for that!

So colourful. Beautiful pictures..
I visited Las Vegas before they installed it. I would love to go back and see it. It is really good that it is free and that it is pretty close to the strip!
You gotta check it out next time you are in Vegas! Such a nice escape from the drinking and gambling lol
Never seen something like this! I love this kind of cool and colorful installations, but here in the middle of nowhere must be quite the experience!
Marina, they repainted the “mountains” about a year ago so they stand out beautifully against the desert landscape. I want to go back this year actually and capture some drone footage around sunset!
It’s so bright and colourful, I love it!! It’s always cool to see art installations out in the wilderness, but I have never seen one quite like that!
p.s. it may have been hot as balls, but your make up looks fine girl! You can handle the heat! <3
Hahaha Thanks so much! Tons of powder made that possible!
